Dr. Susan Hanlon

Interim Dean

College of Business Administration

Susan is the Interim Dean of the College of Business Administration (CBA).  As dean her responsibilities include strategic leadership of the AACSB accredited business school to meet the enrollment, revenue generation, partnership building, fund-raising and student success goals as determined by the University’s strategic goals.   As the leader of the senior leadership team of the CBA she is involved with all strategic planning for the college focused on the overall value proposition and visibility of the college . 

 

Previously Susan was the Associate Dean of the college and Chair of the Daverio School of Accountancy.  Before that she was the Assistant Dean of the CBA with leadership responsibilities over undergraduate programs.  She has also served as Assistant Dean of the CBA and Director of Graduate Programs.  Susan is also an Associate Professor of management and taught graduate and undergraduate management courses for 20 years before taking on administrative roles beginning in 2009. 

 

Dr. Hanlon has numerous research publications in the areas of non-traditional compensation; inter-organizational cooperation; and managerial creativity.  Dr. Hanlon has extensive experience in both management/executive development and strategic planning facilitation.  In particular, she has conducted interactive professional development sessions on the topics of creativity, problem-solving and decision-making in addition to other behavioral topics related to management and transformational change.  Also, Dr. Hanlon is active in civic organizations and has held board and elected local government positions.  She is currently on the executive committee of the Goodwill of Akron board of directors.

 

Susan Hanlon received her BA in Accounting from Grove City College; MBA from Kent State University; and Ph.D. in management from The University of Memphis.  She has been on the faculty of The University of Akron since 1990.  She taught graduate and undergraduate classes in the areas of general management; human resource management; and organization transformation.

 

She lives in Wadsworth with her husband Bill and has one adult daughter, twin grandchildren and two dogs.  Susan enjoys spending time at the beach, down-hill skiing, entertaining and reading historical fiction and non-fiction.
